Northwest Florida State College Phi Theta Kappa

FAQ

FAQ About Membership

  1. How do I become a member?

Membership into Northwest Florida State College's Sigma Mu Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa is by invitation only via student email. It is extended to those students currently enrolled at Northwest Florida State College who have completed a minimum of twelve credit hours at our college and have maintained a minimum grade point average of 3.5 in all college courses.

Your should recieve an invitation the semester after you have completed the twelve credit hours. If you haven't and you fit this criteria, contact us by sending and email on this sites contact page.

  2. How much time will being a member take?

The time a member devotes to Phi Theta Kappa is a matter of individual choice. Some Phi Theta Kappa members choose to devote many hours to chapter activities; others may elect to not participate at all. Phi Theta Kappa's Constitution requires only that a prospective inductee make and maintain certain GPAs. No service activities may be required of new or old members.

  3. What about fees?

Members are also required to pay a one-time fee of $75.

  4. What if I move after I joined Phi Theta Kappa?

Members can easily update their address information with Headquarters by using the On-Line Change of Address Form.

  5. What if I was extended an invitation but the passcode doesn't work any more?

If this happens, then you have missed the acceptance window. The acceptance window is usually open for about two months after you are extended an invitation. If you didn't join at that time usually you will be sent another invitation the following Fall or Spring semester as long as you still meet the eligibility requirements. If you don't receive another invitation, contact the faculty advisor for further instructions.
